Duolingo Bring My Parents Back Song Explained (2024)

Duolingo is one of the most popular language-learning apps with a huge fan following across the world.

The app is popular for its bite-sized lessons and gamified way of learning a new language. Duolingo also has a green owl named Duo as its official mascot. The owl is a guide who motivates Duolingo users to keep up with the lessons.

The Duolingo owl looks cute, but many users fear him as he is a tough taskmaster. The Duo has man avatars and has often taken over social media with fan-made memes and videos.

The Duo is once again in the spotlight as the language learning app has released its Christmas album featuring the green mascot.

In Duolingo’s first festive album Owl on The Prowl. The album has four soundtracks  “Owl On the Prowl”, “Bring My Parents Back”, “I Hate Christmas”, and “Japanese or Broken Knees.”

You can hear these Duolingo songs on Spotify.

What Is Bring My Parents Back On Duolingo?

Bring My Parents Back

Bring My Parents Back was written by The Gregory Brothers and was released by Duolingo & The Gregory Brothers on November 12, 2024.

The song is making fun of the Green Owl who is known for emotionally blackmailing learners if they miss a few lessons.

In the song, it seems Duo has kidnapped the kid’s parents as punishment for missing some lessons by him.

Looks like this festive season Duolingo is judging learners based on how regularly they take their lessons.

Duo is known to pop up in between lessons to encourage users. However, the mascot does not hurt anyone but is known to emotionally blackmail learners by popping up in their email boxes copiously shedding tears.

He often sends notifications such as “You made Duo sad” or “We missed you” if you miss your lessons.

Many users have often wondered about the reason behind Duo’s Green color. The reason is an interesting but funny story.

Duolingo founders Luis von Ahn, and Severin Hacker, were discussing the concept for the mascot.  Hacker was not in favor of the mascot being green. However, von Ahn and the team pulled a prank on him by coloring Duo bright green and the rest is history.

The duo has since its launch acquired a cult status on social media. Artists create fan art featuring him on Duolingo’s Instagram account and also hold Fan Art Fridays to share their favorites.

The duo is also popular on TikTok and is often seen as a giant, terrorizing the Duolingo offices in TikTok videos shared by fans.

 Duo Plushies

There are Duo plushies that are often given away randomly on Duolingo’s social media channels. This holiday season the Duo plushie sports a tiny Santa hat, with Duolingo aspiring to make ‘Owl on the Prowl’ the new ‘Elf on the Shelf’ tradition.

Bring My Parents Back Lyrics

[Verse 1: Timmy]

The only thing I want on Christmas Day

Is my mom and dad, who were taken away

By an owl with a BBL, who said I should have studied

Now, I found myself here, all alone

They’re not picking up when I call their phone

I wonder if they’re okay

Hope they’re thinking of me

[Bridge: Timmy]

I’ll do anything, on both Spanish and French

If you just grant my Christmas wish

[Chorus: Timmy]

Bring my parents back! (Bring them back)

That’s all I ask of you today

I don’t need any Fortnite skins or Robux

Just wanna have those cringe kisses and hugs

Bring my parents back (Bring them back)

My mistakes are in the past, I swear I’ve changed

I’m tired of reading nothing but PB and J

I promise I will study if you

Bring my parents back on Christmas day!

[Verse 2: Timmy]

I gave that dreaded a decent try

But the top half of the tree was way too high

And now my snickerdoodles came out burned and icky

And Mom and Dad were right, ’cause I feel like I got

A symptom of too many games, is called “brain rot”

The holidays are just no fun when they’re not with me

You said “Spanish, or vanish”!

I thought it was a joke

Now I’m clinging to one strand of holiday hope

[Chorus: Timmy]

Bring my parents back (Bring them back)

That’s all I ask of you today

I don’t need Minecraft or any plastic junk

Just want you to let my parents out of that trunk

Bring my parents back! (Bring them back)

My mistakes are in the past

I swear I’ve changed

The frozen pizza’s gone

And I don’t know what else to make

I promise that I’ll study if you

Bring my parents back on Christmas Day!
