Duolingo has a series of features that you will love for sure.
Unfortunately, some people encounter issues while using its features.
The issue tons of Duolingo users are encountering right now is their mic not working while completing exercises on the platform.
For the unversed, some exercises on Duolingo ask users to repeat or answer verbally.
For that, they need to use their Duolingo Mic.

Many Duolingo users took to social media platforms and complained that they were unable to complete exercises as their Duolingo Mic was not working.

Duolingo Mic Not Working Solutions (2025)
Grant Microphone Permission
The majority of Duolingo users complained that they had Microphone enabled in Duolingo but they were unable to use it.
If you have already granted permission to Microphone in Duolingo but continue to get the same issue let me know that Duolingo uses Google’s Text to Speech (TTS) service, which must be enabled manually.

To fix the Duolingo mic not working issue, you need to go to Settings and then Apps.
In the App section, you need to search for Speech Recognition and Synthesis from Google.
Once found, tap on it.
Now, tap on the Permissions option.
Now, tap on the Microphone option. When you do so, you will be shown a couple of options.
Now, tap on the ‘Allow only while using the app’ option.
Once you have successfully granted permission to Microphone in Speech Recognition and Synthese from Google, launch Duolingo do exercises requiring a microphone, and check if the issue is resolved.

If you continue to get the same issue on Duolingo, apply the following methods.
Restart the Duolingo App
Sometimes, we encounter issues like this due to temporary bugs and glitches present in the app.
Fortunately, these glitches are fixed by simply restarting the Duolingo app.
To do so, close the Duolingo app and then drag the screen from bottom to top to access the Quick Access menu.
Now, force close all applications running in the background including Duolingo.
Once done, wait for some time and relaunch the Duolingo app to check if the problem is fixed.
Update the Duolingo App
If you are using an outdated version of the Duolingo app, you may encounter issues like the Duolingo mic not working.
In that case, you will have to update Duolingo to the latest version. To do so, you simply need to Google Play Store or App Store and search for Duolingo.
After that, you simply need to tap on the update button.
Once the Duolingo app is updated, launch Duolingo and check if the issue is gone.
Clear Cache
If updating the Duolingo app does not fix your problem then you should consider clearing the cache files of the app.
To clear the cache on Android, go to Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Duolingo > Storage > Clear Cache.
To clear cache on iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Duolingo > Offload App.
Cross Check Your Device Microphone
It may be possible that the Duolingo Mic not working because your device microphone is faulty.
In that case, you can cross-check your device microphone by using the mic on any other app.
You can also consider talking to someone on call and check if the other person will be able to hear your voice properly.
If your device microphone is also not working on other applications then it’s your device that causing the issue.
To resolve this problem, you can go to the nearest customer care and replace your device’s microphone.
Make Sure Your External Microphone Is Working
If you are on a PC and using the external microphone then make sure it is connected properly and it is working.
To check that, you can perform a test on your device by recording your voice.
If you are unable to record your voice then reconnect the microphone or use another one.
